GeoPro Project Research Published in Geothermics Journal

Tue, 02 August, 2022

A paper based on research funded as part of the GeoPro Project has been accepted for publication in the Geothermics Journal.

The article, ‘Advanced Well Model for Superhot and Saline Geothermal Reservoirs,’ was co-authored by Alina Yapparova, Benoit Lamy-Chappuis, and Thomas Driesner from ETH, Zurich.

The article investigates a well model suited to the production simulation of superhot and saline geothermal resources. Wells drilled into supercritical resources can typically self-flow or, otherwise, air pressurisation techniques can be used to help start the well.

In addition, the article demonstrates how the presence of dissolved NaCl salt in the produced fluid can lead to halite scaling if the water resource is in the vapor+halite thermodynamic field. The paper also looks at how the specific enthalpy of a fluid produced near a magmatic intrusion can remain close to its initial value for several centuries.
