GEOPRO to be presented at ESAT 2022 Conference

Thu, 30 June, 2022

A representative from the GEOPRO Project is attending the upcoming European Symposium on Applied Thermodynamics (ESAT 2022) in Graz, Austria.

The conference, which is taking place 17-20 July 2022, will be the 32nd meeting of applied thermodynamics conferences that were initiated by Helmut Knapp in 1974.

ESAT 2022 will cover new experimental achievements in the field, and the latest findings and the practical application of predicting thermophysical properties of complex systems, molecular and statistical thermodynamics, and molecular modeling and simulation.

Our project representative, from the Institut de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand (ICCF) at Clermont Auvergne University, will present on the topic of, ‘New Improvements for Experimental Thermodynamic Characterization of Brines Loaded with Carbon Dioxide’ on 20 July at 10:40.

The presentation is based on a joint research project to promote geothermal energy as an alternative approach to clean and sustainable energy. While the direct utilization of hydrothermal (water-based) fluids has formed the primary approach for both direct use as hot water and for electricity generation through steam flash, there is a need to understand, model and optimise thermal and physical reservoir systems over a large range of temperatures and pressures in order to reach more promising sources of heat.

The presentation will reveal how the GEOPRO project is focusing on the determination of the thermal (heat capacity and enthalpy) and volumetric (density) properties of mixtures for composition, temperature and pressure conditions for geothermal exploitation. She will also present the modifications or developments of classical apparatuses as well as commenting on the results of thermodynamic properties using those new devices.
